About Us

About Us

AFMC Communities In Schools (AFMC-CIS) is implemented by AFMC, a nonprofit organization rooted in partnership, equity, and local impact. Together, we support students by placing trained site coordinators in schools across Arkansas to remove barriers and build success—inside and outside the classroom.

About AFMC

AFMC (Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care) is a nonprofit organization with offices in Little Rock and Fort Smith. For over 50 years, AFMC has worked to improve the health and well-being of Arkansans through education, data, and community collaboration. As the implementing partner of CIS in Arkansas, AFMC brings deep experience in program delivery, evaluation, and school-based service coordination.

About Communities In Schools

CIS was created in 1977 to empower students with communities of care and support so they can achieve their dreams. Today, CIS founder Bill Milliken's vision has been brought to life through CIS's powerful network of organizations in 3,950 schools to serve over 2 million students across the nation every year.

"It's not the programs that are transforming young minds; it's relationships. A great program simply creates the environment for healthy relationships to form between adults and children. Young people thrive when adults care about them on a one-to-one level and when they also have a sense of belonging to a caring community."
Bill Milliken, CEO, Communities In Schools
